Masimo and Philips Unite to Better Patient Monitors

Aug 1, 2020 | News, Philips, Technology

Two global giants in patient monitoring technology have entered into a special deal to reinforce their ongoing partnership. According to the terms of the deal, Philips will now integrate certain technologies developed by Masimo into some of their multi-parameter patient monitors. As an official distributor of Philips equipment in South Africa, Glenmed is particularly excited about this development. Here’s how it will affect monitoring in medical facilities.

Better Capnography Measuring in Philips Patient Monitors

Philips has been making use of some of Masimo’s non-invasive measurements, such as SET® Measure-through-Motion and Low Perfusion™ pulse oximetry, in many of their multi-parameter monitors for some time already. Read more about Philips and their product range on our blog.

The latest addition to the deal between the two companies makes Philips Masimo’s first industry partner to launch two advanced Masimo measurements, designed for capnography and regional cerebral oximetry measurements, in their own monitors.

Masimo NomoLine and O3 Measuring Technologies

The Masimo measurements that Philips is adding to its IntelliVue® MX-series include NomoLine ‘no-moisture’ sampling lines, which are designed for low-flow applications and can be used in a variety of clinical scenarios and care settings for both intubated and non-intubated patients of all ages. The second measurement is O3 regional oximetry, which enables clinicians to monitor cerebral oxygenation in situations where pulse oximetry alone may not be sufficiently accurate and comprehensive.

‘Complementary strengths’ for Philips Patient Monitors

Frans van Houten, CEO of Royal Philips, said of the new addition to the partnership: “As a global leader in health technology, we are delighted to reinforce our partnership with Masimo, bringing their advanced measurements to our innovative IntelliVue patient monitors, thereby making them even more versatile. Our customers expect integrated solutions to help them address the quadruple aim of healthcare. The complementary strengths of Philips and Masimo allow us to offer reliable ventilation and regional oximetry solutions, which we expect will help clinicians deliver even better patient care.”

‘Win-win’ for Patients and Clinicians Alike’

Masimo founder and CEO Joe Kiani added: “Combining our expertise in noninvasive and signal processing technologies with Philips’ expertise in integrated patient monitoring and therapy solutions is a win-win for patients and clinicians alike. We are proud that Philips, recognising our expertise in this clinical space, has chosen to make our innovative O3 and NomoLine platforms available to their customers.”
