Put Your Health First in 2018

Jan 19, 2018 | News

In the blink of an eye, 2017 has vanished and we’re already half way through January 2018. They say it’s the year of the dog, but we disagree. In our opinion, 2018 is the year of the healthy – as we hope to educate all of our valued clients and followers on how to live their healthiest lives possible! So, taking a break from focusing on the world’s best medical equipment available in South Africa, we hope this article will help you put your health first in 2018…

Cut Your Sugar Intake

According to a medibank.com.au article, cutting down on your sugar intake might be the best decision you make –  like ever! The Australian health insurer shares that the benefits of cutting out the granular sweet stuff include mood stabilisation (sugary foods cause spikes and dips in mood), healthier teeth (sugar fuels the growth of mouth bacteria when on a tooth’s surface, speeding up enamel degradation), and even increased brain function (high-sugar diets cause insulin resistance which can damage communication between brain cells).

Drink More Water

Abby Phon, freelance blogger, is an avid drinker of water, and believes that her glowing, youthful skin and lack of headaches is thanks to her high H2O intake. She shares that water can aid in weight loss (by flushing by-products of fats and reducing appetite when drunk before meals), improve skin complexion (by moisturising the skin), and even act as a natural headache remedy (headaches are often caused by dehydration).

Cook Food Well

With the recent listeria outbreak in South Africa having killed over 60 people in the last three months alone, now is a better time than ever to ensure that the food you’re cooking is cooked well. Foodsafety.gov suggests that all South Africans refrain from drinking unpasteurised milk, rinse raw fruits and vegetables thoroughly before cooking, cook meats of all kinds until very well done, and wash up well after cooking (this includes hands, utensils, and work surfaces).

Get a Full Body Check-up

The last way to put your health first in 2018, and to set your mind at ease should you be a borderline hypochondriac, is to visit your doctor for a full body check-up. We’re talking blood tests, urine tests, x-rays, the works! The best way to find out just how healthy you are is to assess your health holistically. This way, you’ll know where your health stands and what you might need to pay closer attention to this year.
